March 2017 Favs

I actually have some favorites this month! When I find something I truly like, I tend to use it over and over again-which is why it’s difficult for me to compile favorites every month. No make up items this month, but I’ve got neat stuff to share!

1. Soap & Glory Deep Moisture Body Milk

Target recently started carrying Soap & Glory products and boy was I excited! I’ve always wanted to try their body scrubs, lotions, and washes and this brand does not disappoint. My boyfriend and I have been obsessed with this body lotion. I literally drench and lather my body in this after I shower and it not only smells delicious, but also leaves your skin smooth. Will definitely be trying there other lotions and scrubs!

2. Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

This is my first time ever using a Cetaphil product and I absolutely love this face wash. I’m also  obsessed with the smell haha. It’s fresh, clean, and just a satisfying scent. It’s a straightforward cleanser that does the job and doesn’t break me out-I see myself using this product for a long time.

3. Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser

Sean actually bought this for himself and I was intrigued because of the charcoal ingredient. Gave it a try and haven’t stopped using it since! This is probably our third bottle but you can really feel the cleanliness after each cleanse. It also smells so good! Can you tell I love product scents? Haha. You also get a slight tingly feeling after and it’s refreshing.

4. Target Peony Petals Soy Candle

Candles from Target are the best! This one called Peony Petals is my new current obsession and I’ve been burning this one every single night after work. It has a light, floral, and sweet scent that is not overpowering and leaves the room smelling so pleasant.

5. Target Lush Amazon Soy Candle (yes, another candle)

Yes, ANOTHER Target candle for this month’s favorite because I have been burning this one just as often as the Peony Petals. I recently got back into burning candles. This one is definitely a lot stronger in scent and more floral. I didn’t like this when I sniffed the wax but fell in love when I started burning it.

6. Trader Joe’s Flowers

I used to buy flowers almost weekly but I stopped once I started realizing how much money I was spending. Luckily, Trader Joe’s has been coming out with some beautiful, petite bouquets for great prices-which means fresh flowers every week for me!

7. Korean Drama: Goblin, The Lonely and Great God

WOW. If you like Korean Dramas and you want something new, addicting, and amazing-please watch this. And give yourself a good week because you will binge-watch this show. Even if you have never watched a Korean Drama, start with this one. It’s a romantic comedy with a great mythical storyline-a lot of drama, some action, and so addicting. Watch it!

Hope you enjoyed my little roundup for this month!

Some Awesome Books…

One of my goals for 2017 was to get back into reading and I have been keeping pace with a good 2-3 books/month so far and here is a list (and a lil description of each book) of books that stood out to me!

The Vegetarian |Han Kang

Has nothing to do with the actual diet-it is an allegorical thriller about a married South Korean woman who suddenly decided to become vegetarian after having a dream. It’s a slim book filled with exceptional writing-the story sucks  you in from the beginning and has you admiring her way of using vegetarianism to shed light to bigger, more societal issues.

A Man Called Ove |Fredrik Backman

The question is: who DIDN’T love this book. This is a simple, melancholy story of a grumpy old man and his light-hearted story after a family moves across the street from him. This book tugs at your heart strings and will bring tears to your eyes-a keeper for sure! I recommended this to all my friends and family.

The Underground Railroad | Michael Colton

A big hit at the moment! Had to wait for weeks for the library to get it in stock but was worth the wait. Readers are thrown into Cora’s escape from slavery and her journey from Georgia in the hopes of freedom. Extremely well-written and filled with short and meaningful metaphors. Colton is def a top-notch writer. He weaves the story line effortlessly while educating readers about the Underground Railroad-an eye opener for those who are not so educated about slavery and a necessary reminder for others.

Girl on the Train | Paula Hawkins

If you liked Gone Girl, try this one next or vice versa ha. This is a crazy page-turner that all starts with recently divorced Rachel who daydreams of a seemingly perfect couple who she sees on her daily train commute to work. It’s a psychological thriller that keeps you on your toes-I finished the book in less than two days.

If you have read any of these books, please share your thoughts on them! And if you haven’t, these are ALL worth reading. Obviously I read more than these 4 books since January but these are the 4 that really shined-not sure if I want to know make a post about books that I was disappointed in/didn’t like very much…

The next book I am planning to read: Evicted by Matthew Desmond and Shelter by Jung Yun.

Arts District | Los Angeles

This past weekend, I visited the Arts District in Los Angeles and I took some snaps of everything that Sean and I ate and saw. If you ever visit SoCal or California in general, the Arts District is a must if you like eclectic, “hipster”, rustic vibes-loving coffee and/or beer is also an advantage!

As you can see, a lot of good food and coffee in the area. There are also many fun breweries around the area but I wasn’t able to capture them on my camera. Barcade (a bar and arcade in one-super cool!) and Angel’s Brewery are two  that we enjoyed. Both have very cool, chill environments and presumably amazing beer (I don’t drink lol).

Hope you enjoyed this small collection of photos!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter | 4 Years

This past weekend, Sean and I celebrated 4 years of being together and wowzie has that gone by fast! We have been wanting to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in L.A. ever since it opened and we FINALLY had a full Saturday to go and boy was it worth it.

The entrance to Hogsmeade was like a big, warm welcome to childhood. I grew up with Harry Potter and it was so exciting-I almost peed my pants. It really is beautiful, especially all the little details like the cobblestone walkways, the lampposts, crooked chimneys, etc…just AMAZING.

The first thing we did was the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride-you go through the Hogwarts castle, including the Defense against the Dark Arts classroom, Dumbledore’s office, etc…

Apologies for the dark pictures! The line was moving fast so it was difficult to take proper pictures without getting trampled on. These definitely don’t do it justice. There were so many details that I wish got on camera, you really feel like you are in Hogwarts! Fair warning, the actual ride consists of virtual reality and can make you extremely nauseated especially if you suffer from motion sickness (me, all day every day). Other than feeling like vomiting, the ride is so fun and totally worth waiting for!

Roaming through the shops and browsing around in Honeydukes, Zonko’s, and Ollivander’s was so sentimental. We decided to get a Chocolate Frog for a souvenir but passed on the wands (very pricey at almost $40). They even had interactive wands for around $10 more that allowed you to use spells to perform magic in certain areas of the park. Naturally, we had to try the famous butterbeer and the hype is real! I prefer the hot version. It basically tasted like a buttery, rice-crispie treat in liquid form-very addicting and sugary!

There is basically one sit-down restaurant in the Harry Potter park: The Three Broomsticks. The food was surprisingly good and decently priced for an amusement park restaurant. I got the Lemon Herb Chicken with Corn/Potatoes and Sean got the Fish and Chips. The atmosphere is amazing and cozy, especially with the soft Harry Potter soundtrack playing in the background. Hogs Head (the pub and only place you can purchase alcohol) was busy and one of the few places that sell hot butterbeer. YUM.

Overall, it was a magical experience and people of all ages will adore this place. Sean and I basically spent 8 hours in the Harry Potter section and used the other two to wander around the other parts of Universal Studios haha. Something definitely worth mentioning is the new AMC Walking Dead attraction. It’s a walk-through attraction where walkers scare the living shit out of you. So funny and a must.

I hope to one day visit the Harry Potter park in Orlando, Florida as I heard it’s bigger. I highly suggest visiting The Wizarding World, even if you are not a Harry Potter fan. It literally whisks you away to another land-I could live there!

Bullet Journal 2017

So I’ve been hearing about this thing called the Bullet Journal. I had no idea that it existed until a few months ago and I was incredibly intrigued. It seems to be becoming more prevalent and the concept of how customizable and organized it was, definitely made me want to go for it this year. Trust me, I did SO much research on this and I basically started with this nifty website:

I then nosed into the bullet journals of bloggers, youtubers, instagramers, etc… and I am actually really excited to keep this up for the rest of the year. It’s nothing special or anything but I thought it would be interesting for any nosy people out there (like me) who would like to see my Bullet Journal!

R & R | Idyllwild, CA

My boyfriend and I went on a little mountain retreat for Labor Day weekend and it was exactly what we needed after the past few busy weeks we have both been having. If you are located anywhere in the Southern California area, Idyllwild should only be a few hours away from where you live. Nestled in the San Jacinto mountains, Idyllwild is a quaint and small mountain town that is surrounded by quiet beauty.

We stayed at the Strawberry Creek Bed and Breakfast Inn that is walking distance from town. With only 10 rooms, this inn has a rustic, homey, and comfortable ambience. This is NOT  a place for people who are looking for luxury. The inn screams vintage and we loved it!

The inn consisted of many old-fashioned board and card games, relaxing background music, and delicious home-cooked breakfasts. The grounds consisted of a garden, access to the Strawberry Creek, and a chicken coop where they used fresh eggs every morning for our meals.

The Idyllwild town had a plethora of restaurants, gift shops, and coffee cafe’s. Gift shops ranged from quilt to hand-made candle stores. The town had a sense of community and friendliness that was so contagious and much appreciated.

Just a 10 minute drive up the mountain would be Humber Park which is basically the beginning of many trails. They range from easy to advanced and are all gorgeous trails, far away from the bustle of cars and buildings. Rock climbers and intense hikers flock to Humber Park.

Overall, this was a nice sanctuary to go to for the long weekend. We cannot wait to visit again!!

Brazilian Waxing vs Sugaring

heyaaaa friends!

Today I wanted to talk about something a little different and it has to do with hair removal around your beautiful female genitalia. There are many ways to keep yourself groomed down there. If you prefer to be au naturale, you do you boo. I prefer to as bare as a baby’s bottom. This is for anyone who is thinking of getting hair removal using wax or sugar. I will be going over the differences between them and what I prefer. This is also for any ladies out there who are waxing and never heard of sugaring or want to know more information about it.

Before waxing and/or sugaring

I only shaved and I hated it. My hair would grow back angry and thicker than before and I would get itchiness/irritation afterwards. I have many friends who prefer to shave and they don’t experience any negative effects but I just don’t think shaving was for me. I exfoliated, used the correct shaving methods, etc…blah blah blah. It wasn’t working for me.

My First Experience Waxing

  1. Hair waxing is painful no matter what. Especially if you were shaving before, it will be even more painful since the hairs are thicker. I only waxed once in my life. It was painful but bearable.
  2. Make sure to really do your research about the place you are planning on going to and verify that the aestheticians are experienced and know what they are doing.
  3. I recommend taking pain killers 30 minutes before if you are sensitive to pain. Some girls take it better than others.
  4. The technician will go into every crevice. As in you can’t be shy to spread those legs girl haha. My first time, I was pretty surprised at how thorough they were. Obviously, you can tell them if you don’t want certain areas to be touched, but the traditional Brazilian wax is everywhere: front and back.
  5. After my first time, I experienced small red bumps/itchiness/irritation/dryness. I was not happy because, yet again, my skin proved to be sensitive to another hair removal technique. My friends were doing great (some did have my symptoms too) but I didn’t want to wax again if I was going to continue having those annoying side effects.

My First Experience with Sugaring

Then, some of my co-workers introduced me to the beautiful world of sugaring.

  1. What is sugaring? It is essentially the same concept as waxing but instead of wax, technicians use a mixture of sugar, water, lemon juice, and salt to make a natural, sticky putty that will be used to remove hair.

sugaring-hair-removal_Fotor_Collage.jpg2. It is less painful than waxing. At least for me it was. It’s still painful  (duh.) but such a better alternative when it comes to how much it hurts.

3. I find it more thorough than wax. I don’t know why but it seems to grab hair better and I feel completely hairless with no little stubs poking out here and there.

4. It is better for you. I have been sugaring now for a year and I have had no red bumps/irritation/itchiness/flakiness. The technician told me I was sensitive to the wax product I used before and that this is a natural alternative for people who have bad affects from wax.

5. My hair has actually become thinner over the year since I’ve been doing it. I can last 4-5 weeks until I have to go back for a maintenance wax. I barely even feel the pain anymore because you get so used to it.

6. Price-wise, it depends on where you go. The place I go to charges around $50 for the first time and $40 for maintenance sugaring. I don’t think it’s too bad and it is the cheapest place around my area.

All in all, you can tell I absolutely love sugaring. For me personally, it just wins all around. I have friends who still wax or shave and are content with doing so! People have different preferences and I happen to have better results with sugaring.

Important Pointers for People Who Have never Sugared/Waxed

  1. Research about the place you plan on going and see how experienced the technicians are. The more experienced, the less painful it can be. I have had people who had little experience sugar me and it is very different from people who has had more experience: pain-wise and quality-wise.
  2. If you are squeamish with pain, take pain killers before/consider sugaring over waxing.
  3. Make sure to exfoliate after. By scrubbing the top dead skin cells, it will prevent any in-grown hairs and those are not great.
  4. Be calm! A lot of girls do this so you are not the only one. If I can do it, you sure can haha.

I genuinely hope this helps any ladies (or men) out there who simply want more information about the difference between waxing and sugaring. If you are thinking of doing it, you will be completely ok! Feel free to share your experiences below ❤

Laneige BB Cushion Review

heya friends!

Today, I will be doing an in-depth review on the Laneige BB Cushion foundation. I have been using this for over a year now and  even though my first impression of it was not so positive, I have grown to love it. It is now my most used, every-day foundation.IMG_2732_Fotor.jpg

Where to purchase/price?

Target has a little section with all Laneige products which is AWESOME because before that, you could only purchase Laneige products online or in Asian beauty stores. They are not the cheapest products, but they are worth the money in my opinion. From Target, the BB Cushion is $34 and comes with a cushion refill and an extra sponge which is basically two cushions in one. That’s marvelous haha.

Color Range

Most BB Cushions don’t have a big variety of color options because they are like BB creams so they are essentially tinted moisturizers. I got the color Medium. The colors they provide are Fair, Light, Light Medium, Medium, Medium Dark, and Dark.IMG_2736_Fotor.jpg

What it Claims to Do

It claims to moisturize, protect the skin from the sun (SPF 50), has anti-aging properties, brighten skin, prevent shine, and give a long-lasting light to medium coverage.

What it Really Does

This BB Cushion is heavenly for people with dry skin. It does moisturize very well and gives off a dewy, healthy finish to the skin. I actually have dry/oily combination skin and it still works great for me. I just powder over areas where I do get oily and it never breaks me out. When I first purchased this, I had super oily skin and it just did not work for me. I would become so oily within a few hours and I just felt so uncomfortable and dirty. Coverage wise, it is for sure a light to medium coverage. It is buildable but to an extent. Like I said above, this is my every day foundation when I’m out running errands and stuff. It’s perfect to wear on good-skin days. For me, it is not long-lasting. This is good for a solid 3-4 hours but after, it just wears off on my skin. I don’t really mind this because I know which foundations to use when I’m going to have a long day out.IMG_2729_Fotor_Collage_Fotor.jpg

The sponge that it comes with is very helpful. You simply dab the sponge into the product and press into the skin gently. I never wipe it on my face, I like to dab because I feel like it gives the most coverage. It melts into the skin instantly and smooths out the complexion quite nicely. It is probably best to switch sponges regularly as it gets unsanitary. Luckily, it comes with an extra set of the cushion so yay! IMG_2737_Fotor.jpg

All in all, I do love this BB Cushion. I need to try the new Lumi Cushion by L’oreal because I heard it’s actually better than this one and cheaper. I’m thinking of purchasing it soon so I can write a review and compare it to the Laneige one. I think the reason why this one is a bit pricey is because of it’s anti-aging properties. Laneige is mostly a skin-care brand so their BB Cushion does have numerous advantageous properties. Once again, good for good-skin, low-key days and gives a dewy, fresh finish. It is best for dry to combo skin. People with very oily skin should reconsider this one since the finish is so moisturizing.

I hope this in-depth review was helpful for any of ya’ll who are thinking of getting into the Cushion fad. If you already do have this, feel free to comment/like below! I would love to hear people’s opinions on this one.
