life of a recluse. // thoughts

I’ve been told that I’m outgoing, easy to talk to, and seem very sociable. These are all true but also false. I use all of my mental energy when I first meet a person-I am totally present and I am the best version of me. Unfortunately, this is me around 10% of the time. In reality, I’m a recluse. I like staying at home and I can go without seeing anyone for an oddly long amount of time. Of course I get lonely (who doesn’t?) and that’s usually when I dip my toes into the social world and confide in the few but understanding friends that I have. The only person I see daily is my boyfriend, who I live with. And even he knows that I need personal space quite a bit.

img_2948_fotor

I see people go out with their friends multiple times a week and to that I think: how exhausting? I don’t know about you but my mental juices run out and I feel drained after being around people (even those I love) for too long. I’ve always worried about it and so have my parents. Even in high school, I would rarely go to sleepovers or the movies with the rest of the girls. I preferred to be at home, with my books. Or with a pen and paper. I think I’m getting better. Not that being a socially inactive person is a disease or anything. I just think I’m opening myself up a little bit more. I say yes to more things and try to rub off that mentally drained feeling I’m so accustomed to. Maybe it’s an excuse for laziness? Not sure.

img_2951_fotor

But if I’m perfectly happy and content with how I am, why do I always get the feeling that I need to be more out there? Whenever I see people I know experiencing all these new things with all these other humans, I can’t help but feel like I should be doing the same. Sometimes I exert too much energy around people-I try too hard to please them and be the best friend they can have during that time, and then I’m left with wanting a good nap and some solitude. Maybe I should learn to chill. Not be so tense around even the closest friends I have, not be so careful with what I say so I don’t offend anyone since I’m afraid of judgement. Now I’m starting to think about my confidence. Yikes.

IMG_3669_Fotor

Meh. I’m turning 26 this weekend and will be spending it solely with my boyfriend and myself. I’ll officially be in my late-20’s I suppose. Woop!

If you read all of this, damn, good for you. x

august ’17 / goals

July is well over and it’s time to set up some new goals for this month!

vegan diet

IMG_2338_Fotor

yep I’m doing this again for the second time. A big influence for me was watching “What the Health” on Netflix. I highly suggest this documentary, vegan or not-it’s an eye-opening film that basically tells you everything you don’t want to hear about what we are eating. It was a significant reminder for me and definitely gave me the push to try the vegan diet again. The main reason why I was unsuccessful the first time was because I was actually gaining quite a bit of weight-I’ve definitely figured out why this time around and plan on taking the healthy vegan route this time!

hiking

img_4310_fotor

I invested in some nice hiking shoes and I am determined to make use of them this month! We are already planning on doing a few hikes for this month so I’m pretty excited. Since I despise exercising, I thought a great way for me to get some good cardio is by hiking: beautiful scenery and good company all in one. And by hiking, I mean legitimate hikes. I used to think hiking was just walking along a dirt trail but my friends and I have some intense hikes planned this month-wish me luck!

planning our birthday trip

IMG_1281_Fotor

Every year, Sean and I plan a joint birthday trip and this  year we are FINALLY visiting Seattle, Washington. We will be going towards the end of September so this month will be dedicated to fully booking everything and planning the whole trip. If ya know me, I love to plan things (maybe a little too much) and can’t wait to share my trip with you guys!

a smoothie a day

This goes with my vegan diet goal as well but the best way for me to get greens into my body is through a smoothie or juice. Honestly, I just don’t like kale. Haha. I think it’s only edible when it’s cooked a certain way and at this point, I have not figured out how to make it myself enough to enjoy it. Adding greens to my fruit smoothies is really the only way I can eat them raw so a smoothie a day will ensure that I am getting those healthy bits into my body.

consistency

IMG_2298_Fotor

For people who actually follow my blog and read my posts, I go through phases where I go silent for a few weeks and then come back. It’s something I am currently trying to work on and I find it difficult to balance my work, personal, and extracurricular life with blogging. I want to be consistent. This month is dedicated to my blog. I want to post at least twice a week-which is doable for me as I used to post 3-4 times a week for quite some time. I would appreciate any tips from fellow bloggers on how to keep up with timely posts. I sometimes get into a creative rut or I simply don’t make the time out of the day to take pictures, edit, or write.

trying new things

IMG_1357

I think this was in my last month’s goal post but it’s something that I think I will be working on for a looong time. I am a person of routine and familiarity. I don’t do well with spontaneous activities and tend to get anxious and panicky if things don’t go to plan. It sucks. But it’s something I want to gradually get better at. I am proud to say that last month, I did so many things out of my comfort zone: I took a kickboxing class, I hiked for 4+ hours in an insect-infested, rocky off-trail, and I managed to make new friends. I hope to continue this in August (my birthday month!).

Do you have any goals this month?

L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara / First Impression

The new L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara has been so prevalent and talked about in the beauty world recently. A lot of people seem to love it and compare it to the adored Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. I bought mine at Target and decided to see what the hype was all about…

IMG_3383_Fotor.jpg

Price/Packaging

I got this baby for $8.99 and it comes with .28 ounces of product. Since this was compared to the Better than Sex mascara so much, I will be doing price and quality comparisons to see if this really is a dupe. The Too Faced mascara is $23 for 0.27 ounces of product. So the L’Oreal one is significantly cheaper, less than half the price actually! Packaging is so similar, it’s ridiculous. I actually don’t have my Too Faced mascara anymore so I am using an image from the Sephora web site. As you can see, literally the same sleek, pink metallic packaging. Even the bristles are extremely similar-thick and hour-glassed shaped. (the pic I took of the Lash Paradise brush was not at a good angle so you can’t see the shape very well lol).

IMG_3388_Fotor.jpgIMG_3390_Fotor.jpgweb_betterthansex_composite.jpg

Claims

IMG_3387_Fotor.jpg

L’Oreal Lash Paradise:

-intense/voluptuous volume and length

-waterproof

Too Faced Better than Sex:

-intense, defined, lengthening lashes.

-smudge-proof, all day wear

Too Faced Better than Sex

The last time I used this mascara was last year but I remember exactly what I liked and didn’t like about this mascara. I liked how it lengthened my lashes (spidery effect), how it lasted all day and didn’t smudge, and how it lifted my otherwise flat lashes. What I didn’t like was the bristle-I recall it being very thick and because I start extremely close to the base of my lashes, I was always afraid of poking myself. Personally, the Better than Sex was more of a lengthening mascara which it primarily does advertise for. I also recall how good the wear was. Something to mention, this one is NOT waterproof but they do have a waterproof version of this one.

L’Oreal Lash Paradise

For my lashes, this is also more of a lengthening rather than a volumizing mascara. This one does advertise for voluminous lashes and I think it does but my Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara does a better job of giving me the illusion of thicker, fuller lashes; this one gives more of a spidery, lengthening effect (just like the Better than Sex). You can definitely see a difference with the photos-my lashes are quite stubborn and like to lay flat most of the time. The application was nice but, like the Too Faced one, wasn’t a big fan of the brush end but that’s more of a personal thing. I did wear this one all day and it didn’t smudge at all and since it’s waterproof, it’s good for all occasions!

IMG_3397_Fotor.jpgIMG_3402_Fotor.jpgIMG_3403_Fotor.jpg

Final Thoughts

I think the L’Oreal Lash Paradise is a solid dupe for the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. It’s significantly cheaper, pretty much does the same thing, and it’s waterproof. I only wore the Lash Paradise for one day but based off my first impression, they are very similar. The packaging and brushes are spot on (which I thought was a little much haha) and formulas are very similar. Without comparing the Lash Paradise to any mascara, I would say it’s a very good lengthening mascara. I mean, look at the photos haha. The only thing I would change would be the bristles but they might be the reason why they stretch my lashes so much so meh. Haha. I hope ya’ll enjoyed this first impression/comparison of the new L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara. Comment below if you like this new mascara or not!

IT Cosmetics CC Cream / In-Depth Review

Woo wee I finally got my greedy hands on this highly reviewed and adored by everyone product: the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream. I was so excited when I got it from Ulta that I immediately slathered it all over my face so I can see what all the hype was about. Let’s just say I found my new go-to face product for this summer!

IMG_3336_Fotor.jpg

Price/Packaging

IMG_3333_Fotor.jpg

I got mine from Ulta for $38 and it comes with 1.08 oz of product. I LOVE the packaging. It comes with a pump so it’s very sanitary and it’s attached to a squeeze tube. It’s very reliable, easy-to-use, and clean. I feel like I could easily travel with this.

Claims

IMG_3331_Fotor.jpg

  • gives full coverage
  • brightening and color-correcting
  • anti-aging benefits
  • SPF 50+ (woot!)
  • hydrating and moisturizing
  • gives a “your skin but better” effect

it_1.jpg

Coverage

Coverage depends on what you are applying with. I like using a dense, flat-top brush to buff the product in. I get better coverage using a brush than with a damp sponge. It also depends on how damp the sponge is. The wetter (that’s what she said) the sponge, the more it’s going to absorb. I would say the coverage is a medium with my brush. You can layer another coat to make it a more full coverage but I like the medium coverage it gives me. Like it advertises, this is a “your skin but better” CC cream so I don’t think it’s supposed to give you a cake-faced coverage look. The finish is beautifully natural-it almost gave a blurred effect to my face.

Brightening and Color Correcting

YES for the brightening. It makes dull skin look more radiant and healthy. Especially during hot summer days, I do not want to be layering multiple products on my face so the fact that this CC cream can give this to you in one product is amazing and a time-saver! Color-correcting wise, I think it does do the job with the dark circles under my eyes but it’s not the same as using a high coverage concealer. Again, this is a CC cream so I didn’t expect it to completely cover all my dark spot. I’m not sure about redness as I don’t have much of that on my skin. From other reviews, it seems to cover redness nicely.

IMG_3354_Fotor_Fotor.jpgIMG_3361_Fotor.jpg

Anti-Aging and SPF 50+

It’s far too early for me to see any anti-aging benefits but I am DIGGING the the SPF 50+. I keep repeating this, but this was seriously made for summer weather. I was a little worried that the high SPF would irritate my eyes as they do tend to get very agitated if I get even a little SPF in them but I was dandy even when buffing the product over the lids and eye area. Again, another quality that makes this CC cream an all in one product.

Hydration

This was another aspect I was worried about. I have very oily skin so BB and CC creams are not my favorite as they leave me more greasy/oily than dewy lol. I also tend to break out more. When I first applied this CC cream, it was dewy so I got anxious that I wouldn’t like it. I did apply some mattifying powder and I was surprised that within 15-20 minutes, I felt like I didn’t have anything on my face. If this was any other CC cream, I would start getting oily again. So it seems as if it actually dried nicely on my skin and complemented the powder I was using (Rimmel Stay Matte Powder). I wore it all day in mid-80 degree weather and I got a little shiny but it was still very comfortable on the skin. So good for a CC cream with a high SPF! Another thing to note: it does not crease into fine lines and wrinkles- at least for me it doesn’t. I have pretty prominent smile lines and almost every foundation, concealer, cream, etc… sinks into them (gotta step up my anti-aging game) but this one didn’t. Woop! Overall, people with dry skin will loveee this and people with oily skin will just need to use a good powder to finish off.

Your Skin But Better

I totally agree with the name of this product. It feels light, great coverage, protects the skin, moisturizes, and basically enhances your skin. I believe I spent my ~$40 on a goodie and will be using this for quite some time. I am so happy that I finally got this product after having my eye on it for months. I can see it becoming an everyday staple for me! Have you tried this CC cream? What did you think?

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water / Review

I’ve been eyeing the Garnier Skinactive Micellar Cleansing Water for a verrrry long time now. I’ve been so attached to my Laneige Makeup Remover for so long now that I haven’t really ventured into different micellar waters…the only other one I’ve used before was the Simple Micellar water from last year. I really enjoyed that one but did have some issues with waterproof mascara and for some reason it left a slight residue on my face that I was not digging. Still loved it by no means, just wasn’t crazy about it.

IMG_3295_Fotor.jpg

Price

There is a slight price difference-I got the Garnier water from Target for around $6.99 for 13.5 fl. oz. and the Simple one for $8.99 at 13.5 fl. oz. as well. The only reason why I’m comparing the two is so you can see that the Garnier one is cheaper. Plus, the one that I purchased removes waterproof makeup as well. The Simple brand is known for being extremely good for sensitive skins as a lot of their products are advertised as “skin-loving” with no harsh chemicals and there are some multi-vitamins infused so that’s probably why the price is a little higher. I didn’t see much information about the Garnier one except that it’s a powerful, yet gentle cleanser that gets the job done.

IMG_3299_Fotor.jpg

Is it any good?

Ayyy I really love the Garnier one. It is definitely something that I will be repurchasing a few more times. The most important thing that I noticed about the Garnier water was how my skin felt after using it. It leaves absolutely no residue on the skin and it really feels like you just washed it. It doesn’t dry out my skin and easily removes waterproof makeup. No tugging or rubbing involved. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I am still amazed at how clean my skin feels after each use. I use around 2 or 3 soaked cotton rounds for my entire face and eyes and then go in with my Cetaphil cleanser to make sure my face has zero makeup. I even use this cleansing water on non-makeup days as well-just to wipe away any dirt or oil in my pores before going in with moisturizer. Again, I just love how refreshed my skin feels!

IMG_3302_Fotor.jpg

As you can tell, I pretty much am sold with this product. There’s nothing much more to say…haha. If you love the Simple Micellar Water, I would give the Garnier one a shot. You will be saving a few bucks and you might just like it even more like how I did. Tell me what ya think!

how I manage my period (and got it under control)

there was a point almost 6 months ago when I felt like my period controlled my life. I planned friend hang-outs, appointments, family events, ANYTHING around my period. It was extremely debilitating and disappointing whenever I had to reschedule or cancel something that I truly wanted to go because of my cramps, heavy flow, or party-pooper mood. I am absolutely certain that I am not the only unfortunate gal who goes through the same thing. Luckily, I have found some relief over the past few months through trial and error. Some of these took some hard work and some are simple tips and tricks to alleviate period symptoms. I hope this can assist or teach any ladies out there how to handle your periods a little better. Every body is different and everyone goes through different menstrual symptoms-these tips have been helping me currently!

1 / physically healthy

Around 3 months ago I started eating healthier, portioning my meals, working out, and I naturally lost around 10-15 pounds. After I shed the weight and maintained my healthy eating and regular exercise, I noticed a HUGE difference with my period symptoms. My breast tenderness went away completely which was insane because this was one of the most painful side effect I was having. When I had lost the weight, I also lost a lot of my boobies so I’m assuming that’s why the swollen effect doesn’t affect me anymore. The cramps I usually suffer through the day before and the first day of my period cut in half so I was no longer cramping the day before. My period also cut down to only 1 day of heavy flow and 3 days of medium to light flow. Very manageable compared to what it was like before. I still cannot believe how getting healthy really lessened my whole period experience.

This is definitely something that takes time and hard work. I actually had no intention of alleviating my period symptoms while I was eating well and exercising often. I was simply trying to be healthy and started to notice the effect it was having on my PMS. I highly suggest trying this out and I do think this is the most important, but most difficult tip I have regarding “dealing” with your period. It takes time and I started feeling changes gradually-it was not an overnight thing. For anyone who has terrible period symptoms and also doesn’t have the healthiest lifestyle, try being good for a few months to your body and it might just thank you. 🙂

2 / midol

IMG_3285_Fotor.jpg

Now this is something that not everyone is going to agree on. Even though my PMS has decreased in severity, I still get crazy body aches, major fatigue, and cramps that make me dizzy on the first day of my period. I sometimes even consider myself lucky because I only experience it on the first day-I have friends who feel like this throughout their whole period. Yikes. So I do take one dose of good ole’ Midol and that usually does the trick for the rest of the day. Midol is the ONLY pain reliever that works for my period cramps. It also contains caffeine so it helps with my fatigue. I also know that a lot of people do not like Midol. I have friends who feel very nauseous when they take it and some who just don’t like pain relievers in general b/c of the ingredients. Luckily, I don’t get any symptoms and I only take one dose (2 capsules) once a month. I do have those rare periods where I don’t feel the need to take one because my cramps happen to be manageable that cycle. But more often that not,  I do like it to help get through that first horrid day.

If you’ve never tried taking Midol, I suggest it but with caution. Check the ingredients, make sure you’re good to take it.

3 / period app diary

IMG_4822IMG_4823.PNG

Literally my savior. I currently use the Period Tracker Lite app and it has been THE BEST thing that has happened to me. I was previously using the Period Diary app and it screwed up my schedule so much and never predicted my period correctly. After extensive research, I found the P tracker Lite and I ain’t never going back! Ever since I got this app (around 8 months ago), I always know what day I will be on my period. It has never been off even one day. I must admit, I do have a pretty regular period cycle but the reviews had plenty of girls with irregular cycles who were gushing over this app. It is DEFINITELY  something worth trying if you want to know when your periods will be, days where you will be fertile, ovulating, etc…I even saw a lot women who want to get pregnant use this successfully. And best of all, it’s free! Gals, do yourselves a favor and get this app.

4 / knowing your symptoms

I never used to keep track of my symptoms and what days I was feeling moody or having cramps. But over the past year, I really wanted to start seeing if there were patterns in my cycle. Again, the P Tracker Lite comes in handy because they have excellent tools to easily note what kind of PMS symptoms you were having that day. Knowing your symptoms and keeping track of them is a great way for you to predict and be prepared for your next period.

5 / be prepared

IMG_3287_Fotor.jpg

Nothing is worse than seeing a spot on your pantie and realizing you don’t have any pads or tampons in the house. Be prepared! Especially when you start tracking your period, you can make sure to stock up on things you need before it even starts. Always have a little period pouch in your handbag or backpack so you are prepared in any event. I always carry a small little zipper pouch with extra pads and a Midol. Once you know around what time of the month you will be getting your period, you can start rearranging your schedule so you’re not doing the most extreme things for those few days or week. Planning ahead and just being a little mindful of your period days is a great way to mentally prepare yourself. I’m not saying to not do anything at all-just be more cautious and don’t plan a crazy Vegas trip that weekend when you know you’ll be a bit more emotional and just not feeling the best. I mean, unless you’re one of the lucky ones who literally don’t experience any PMS. Haha. Well, you wouldn’t be reading this anyway eh?

6 / stay hydrated and hot compresses

IMG_3284_Fotor.jpg

I drink a hell of a lot more water (lemon water, in particular) when I am nearing my period and during. I try to keep my body as hydrated as possible because my body and hormones are going haywire and I want to make sure that I am replenishing myself as much as possible. I highly suggest lemon water, green or ginger tea, or coconut water. I also tend to get really peckish during my period so drinking water helps fill me up a bit when I start inching closer to a bag of Hot Cheetos (tehe). Or having healthy snacks like fruits or hummus. I use a hot compress on my lower abdomen when I am cramping and it may be temporary but it really does loosen up those tightened muscles a bit.

7 / try different period accessories

IMG_3293_Fotor.jpg

You should be using whatever is the most comfortable for you when on your period. I know a lot of people who have never tried using anything other than pads or tampons. I have heard the many benefits of using a menstrual cup such as significantly less cramping, no risk of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome), way more hygienic, etc… I suggest doing some research and trying it out. I am still in the middle of learning how to use my menstrual cup and testing it out-I will definitely blog about my experience! Personally, tampons are uncomfortable for me and I leak no matter what brand/size I wear which leaves me with pads. I know there are more alternatives than pads/tampons and even menstrual cups, I have heard of sea sponges?? Haven’t looked into them yet but I am very open to different period accessories.

So these are basically my tips and some things I did to prove my period symptoms. Like most things in life, it takes some hard work to get the results you desire. Some of the things I mentioned take trial and error-but I promise it will be worth it once you start feeling a difference. I do hope this helps any women out there who are having a tough time with their PMS. Instead of canceling plans, avoiding tasks, or letting PMS control you, do some research and start taking control of your period!

current fav lippies

I have a few current favorite lipsticks that I have been obsessed with-some for months and some that were more recent finds. I wanted to share these amazing products with my lovely readers. Maybe we share some favorites? Or maybe you’ll find something new!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick / Lolita

IMG_3282_Fotor.jpg

I’ve had this baby for a good few months and it might be my all time favorite formula/shade STILL. The formula is really what stands out-pigmented, glides smoothly on the lips, comfortable, not drying, and lasts for hours. It’s hard to find a matte lipstick that doesn’t dry the lips and this one is so easy on the lips. The shade is described as a “chestnut rose” on the Kat Von D website-it’s a gorgeous color. This lipstick retails for $20 and is 0.22 fl. Oz. A pricey lipstick but worth every dolla!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick / Rum Raisin

IMG_3274_Fotor.jpg

An oldie but a goodie! Love this comfortable, creamy lipstick so much-it might be the longest favorite lippie that I own. The shade is a gorgeous reddish-brown. It’s a unique color and lovely on the lips. The soft formula glides on like butter on the lips and is moisturizing as well.  This is not as long lasting so it does need reapplication a few times throughout day-it has never bothered me though. I bought mine from Walmart for around $8 and it is .15 fl. Oz.

Colourpop’s Blotted Lips / On a Stick

IMG_3277_Fotor.jpg

Oooh this a new one and I did a more detailed review on the ColourPop’s Blotted Lips line. I have been going for this bright coral lippie almost every time I put on makeup. It complements a natural, glowy look so well. I usually don’t do bright shades on my lips but the great thing about this blotted lip range is how much control you have over pigmentation. You can make it as bright as you want or as subtle like a tint. It’s very weightless on the lips and lasts all day for me! This is 5 bucks a pop and is 0.035 oz.

Colourpop’s Lippie Stix / Lumiere Matte

Another Colourpop fav-I got this when it first came out and I believe this is my 3rd one…This is a mauve pink shade that looks good for any occasion. It’s so simple to apply and leaves a non-drying matte finish.  All of Colourpop’s Lippie Stix have amazing formulas and shades but this is one of the few that I have repurchased multiple times. I get this for $5 and has 0.035 oz. of product.

Too Faced Perfect Lips Lip Liner / Perfect Spice

IMG_3278_Fotor.jpg

IMG_2658_Fotor

My favorite lip liner shade of all time! It’s a neutral nude that looks great all over the lips and on its own. I actually use this on its own most of the time. It is a bit drying but some chapstick underneath or a gloss over will solve that! It also plumps up my lips a little and gives the illusion of fuller lips. These lip liners glide effortlessly and are rich in color-they have a berry shade that I really want as well. I bought mine at Sephora for around $15 and comes with 0.10 fl. Oz.

IMG_3271_Fotor.jpg

As you can tell, I love me some nudes and berry-toned lippies. What are your current favorite lipsticks?

a short stay in Echo Park, LA

I had a three day weekend so Sean and I decided to go for a quick and sweet getaway to our neighboring city, LA. In particular, the Echo Park region of Los Angeles. We Airbnb’d a gorgeous, minimalist space that was walking distance to solid coffee, amazing food, and Echo/Elysian Park. We only had a little over 24 hours but we made the most out of it-enjoy the pics friends.

Smorgasburg

IMG_3225_Fotor.jpgIMG_3229_Fotor.jpg

Before we actually dived into Echo Park, we stopped by Smorgasburg-an open-air foodie market heaven located in Prospect Park. It was our first time and for anyone planning on going to this, go hungry! Parking and entrance is completely free (woop woop) and the venue is basically the parking lot of a chain of produce markets.

The unique thing about Smorgasburg is the vendors. All foods are from local vendors-everything from live uni, to Filipino desserts, to savory fusion tacos. A dreamland for people who love good food! Unfortunately, Sean and I had a hefty breakfast so we didn’t get to try much. We loved Shrimp Daddy (Hawaiian-styled shrimp, macaroni salad, and rice). AMAZING and so flavorful. This was the busiest stand out of all of them.

IMG_3221_Fotor.jpg

We also grabbed a refreshing hibiscus and oolong tea drink from PopdUp-they specialize in mixing flavored soda with tea. They also come in these adorable glass jars, very Instagram worthy.IMG_3224_Fotor.jpg

The venue also has a small strip in the middle where vendors were selling everything from homemade candles, vintage clothing, to crafty jewelry. Such a great way to spend a Sunday morning/afternoon in LA. We will be visiting again soon!

Art District / Salt & Straw

IMG_3230_Fotor.jpgIMG_3236_Fotor.jpg

We still had some time to kill before check-in so we stopped by our favorite region of LA-the Art District. I wrote a post about this district quite some time ago if ya want to check it out! We were feeling peckish so we stopped by Salt & Straw and got the infamous Honey Lavender ice cream. If you can, please please try this-I was tempted to buy a pint and carry it around with me all day lol.

IMG_3239_Fotor.jpgIMG_3240_Fotor.jpg

I was starting to get hungry again so we decided to get a bite at Cafe Gratitude-a very hyped up vegan restaurant that I have been dying to try. First off, the place is so beautiful-everything is clean, modern, and spacious. Such a relaxing and inviting place to eat. Sean and I shared just the nachos and boy was it freaking scrumptious. It certainly did NOT taste vegan. Any vegetarians/vegans who haven’t tried this place really is missing out!

Echo Park / AirBnB

The AirBnB that we stayed at for the night was simply gorgeous. Aesthetically pleasing and a genius use of space-the hosts had renovated their back house to a comfortable one-level studio-type home. We were originally going to stay at a hotel but there is nothing more intimate and immersive than staying in the neighborhood that you are visiting. Our hosts were the best- I really wanted to stay for at least another day!

IMG_3242_Fotor.jpgIMG_3243_Fotor.jpgIMG_3245_Fotor.jpg

Echo Park was just a short walk (less than a mile) from our little abode and what an interesting park it is. There was a real sense of community there-vendors selling piping hot food, kids playing in the grass, and cute ducklings swimming about. Really loved the laid-back atmosphere.

IMG_3251_Fotor.jpgIMG_3249_Fotor.jpg

Late lunch was a cute vegan restaurant called Sage. Very eclectic and designed beautifully inside. The menu is delicious and all plant-based. We shared a Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich that was super yummy.

IMG_3248_Fotor.jpg

The highlight of the night was having some wine and cheese at The Semi-Tropic. No pictures for this place as it was too dark but pics won’t do it justice anyway. This place is randomly located next to a KFC and someone’s house-it was pretty funny trying to find this place but so worth it. We got the cheese & charcuterie plate that included brie, truffle, prosciutto, and some nuts/apricots. WOW. Hands down best cheese plate I’ve had. By the way, I am lactose intolerant so I suffered greatly after. HA. Will do it again in a heartbeat.

We then walked along Sunset Boulevard to browse through various bookstores, bars, and stumbled upon the Echoplex that happened to be in the middle of a stand-up comedy act. The Echoplex is an intimate venue that usually houses concerts for independent artists-unfortunately no one we knew was playing that night but we definitely enjoyed the last half of the act. This is definitely a place to go dancing/clubbing/chilling if you are ever in the area. Really cool vibes and loved the ambience.

After the wine and cheese, we were both completely shattered so we spent the rest of the evening relaxing in our cozy home and really soaking in the possibility of having our own place soon.

Last, but certainly not least was what we had for breakfast the next day. We longingly said goodbye to our little home and our hosts and drove off to Winsome. Echo Park has a handful of renown breakfast/brunch places and Winsome seemed to a very popular one. The location was tricky to find since it was nestled next to a neighborhood and an apartment complex, but the food and coffee was so good.

I had the avocado toast (THE BEST I have ever had) and Sean had a classic egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich (very delish). Again, the decor was on point-a trend that I have noticed during our stay at Echo Park. I even loved the look of the menu!

IMG_3260_Fotor.jpgIMG_3256_Fotor.jpgIMG_3259_Fotor.jpg

After, we stopped by the Santa Monica pier to really savor the last few hours we had before going back to the OC. As you can tell, this trip focused mostly on food haha! Echo Park is a very hipster, eclectic, vibrant place to visit. I loved how we found the most amazing food in the most random, unforeseen areas. I will be back in the future, there is so much more to see! I do hope you enjoyed this lengthy post of me rambling on and on about how pudgy I got from all the eating I did.

may favs / 2017

another Month has whizzed by and I actually have some favorites this month! I don’t buy new products very often because I use the crap out of things that I find and love. So ya know that when I do a monthly favorites, I REALLY love them.

Aveeno SPF 30 Day Moisturizer

IMG_3192.jpgIMG_3193.jpg

I stopped using an SPF day moisturizer for some reason-I think it’s because I ran out of my previous one and totally forgot to repurchase one. But this month, I was super into slathering SPF on my face every day-especially after getting charbroiled  from Coachella. I like the SPF 30 and I also like how it’s not too sticky. It does take some time to dry on the skin but it doesn’t bother me. I have been using this every single morning and have been really loving it.

Real Techniques Dense Blending Brush

IMG_3195_Fotor.jpg

An oldie but a goodie! I stopped using my Real Techniques blending sponge because I found out how nicely this brush blends in my concealer! For some reason the sponge was just absorbing too much product (maybe I just need a new one lol) and this brush doesn’t pick up as much. I’ve tried using this brush with multiple concealers including the Urban Decay Skin concealer, the Tarte Shape Tape, and drugstore ones like the Rimmel Perfection concealer. They all give me such a concentrated beautiful finish when I use this brush. The coverage difference is very noticeable and leaves my skin looking flawless!

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

**forgot to take a pic of this!**

I actually had this for a few months but started using this more frequently this month. I ditched my usual eyeliner look and started doing mascara-only days. The tiny bristles on this mascara is perfect to really get into those baby bottom lashes. I also really enjoy the formula-definitely lengthens my stubby lashes. I even pop this on my upper lashes as well because of how precise the bristle is!

“Note to Self” Single Shadow from ColourPop

IMG_3194_Fotor.jpgIMG_3201_Fotor.jpg

Like I mentioned above, I have been going eyeliner-less lately and really only using one single shadow all over the lid and this baby is da one. It is a perfect transition or blending shade but I love it on it’s own. It gives a very neutral, soft, depth to the eyes and really compliments my monolids. The formula is amazing- I did a more comprehensive review on Colourpop’s single pressed eyeshadows if ya feel like taking a peek.

 Micron Pens for Bullet Journaling

Woo wee I found some amazing pens. The Micron Pens are a match made in heaven for people who love to doodle, journal, write, sketch, etc…These pens come in different sizes, dry fast, use archival ink, are smooth as butter, and are super reliable for those who are picky with their pens (aka me). I purchased mine from Michael’s for a decent price and have been using them religiously with my bullet journal. I don’t think I can ever go back to using generic pens…

Dainty Chokers / Necklaces

IMG_3196_Fotor.jpgIMG_3197.jpg

I rarely wear jewelry but after purchasing some neckwear for Coachella, I decided to utilize them in my day-to-day life. I love the thin, effortless look of dainty necklaces-they can really pull together an outfit that didn’t look so pulled together before. My sister got me the gold one with the solid rectangle (Urban Outfitters) and it is my most worn one. I like the length and simplicity. The others are chokers that I like to wear alone or layered. They are all so easy to wear and can be mix and matched-they also go with literally every outfit.

Silicone Face Cleanser

IMG_3199_Fotor.jpgIMG_3200.jpg

Found this little cutie at Daiso for around $2 and I have been using it almost daily to wash the oil and grime off my face during the evening. I love this because it is made of silicone so bacteria cannot grow or linger on it-it is also super gentle on the skin so it gives a light exfoliation yet a deeper cleanse than what you would get using your hands. This particular one has a hole for your finger to slide in and maneuver along the face easily. Highly recommend!

I hope you enjoyed this monthly post. If anyone is trying anything amazing this month, please share below!

Etude House: Brow Tint Review

I have no eyebrows. So I either have full drawn-in brows or none at all and it is time-consuming and just annoying to have to draw them in every single morning. Monday-Friday I am brow-less but it would be nice  to have a little bit of filling so there is some shape to them. I was seeing this brow tint from Etude House floating in the beauty world and decided to purchase it on Amazon and try it out!IMG_3180_Fotor.jpg

What exactly does it do?

It is a brow. tint. Haha. So it essentially tints the bare areas on on your eyebrow so it gives the illusion of being fuller without having to actually pencil them in. It reminds me of henna, but for the brows.

Does it work?

Yes! It actually does. It also depends on how long you leave the tint on your eyebrows. The packaging suggests for it to be on the brows for at least 2 hours but I sleep with mine over night. It ALSO depends on what you use to cleanse your face with. They suggest not using any cleansers or anything abrasive on the brows for the first 24 hours so the tint can really sink in I guess. On my first try, I accidentally used an oil-based makeup remover all over my face and over my brows and that took off 80% of it.

Price/Consistency

I purchased mine on Amazon for around $7 for 0.5 fl oz. It is not a lot of product but I consider it a decent price for something that you only use once or twice a week. One of the most talked about aspect about this product is the consistency. It is a very thick, viscous liquid that you spread onto your brows. It takes a minute to understand how to work with it but it’s extremely manageable, especially because if you make a mistake, you can simply wipe off with a tissue or Q-tip. No biggie.

imageedit_13_2380504686.jpgimageedit_19_2667615372.jpg

How long does it last?

Again, it depends. If you are constantly rubbing your eyebrows and using makeup remover or a strong facial cleanser on them, it’s going to wear off faster. I’ve heard the average person usually can keep the stain for about a week. I plan on doing mine every Sunday evening so I have fresh ones for work. The first few days are great-I barely fill them in and if I do, it takes half the time I usually spend. As it fades, I fill them in more but it still does not take nearly as much time to draw them in from scratch.

Can it pull your hairs off?

For me, no. Unfortunately, I did read some reviews about people hairs coming off when removing the tint. I found this really odd because after sleeping with the tint overnight, mine peeled off very gently from my skin. The directions on the packaging specifically say to peel GENTLY from the inner brow to the outer brow. You do not just rip it off like a band-aid.

What shade should I get?

They have a variety of shades on the Etude House website but I purchased #3 Grey Brown- I believe this is the darkest tint they have. Don’t be surprised if the color of the tint is almost black. You’re eyebrows WILL NOT be that dark. Remember, it is only a tint so it is just staining you’re brows.

Is it worth it? Will I keep using it?

Yes and Yes! This is a product that people should at least try if they suffer from naked/sparse brows. It really is a time-saver and it’s also kind of fun to put on. For just $7 a pop, it’s something worth trying!

If you have tried any other brow tints, please let me know! I would love to test out other brands that carry brow tints.
