Today, I will be doing an overdue January 2016 favorite post. I did one of these last year, promising to do it every single month, and it just didn’t work out haha. I WILL try this year as best as I can because I actually enjoy writing these…Like my last one, these favorites are not focused exclusively on beauty products, they are a life compilation of things I just loved during the month including food, people, books, activities, lifestyle, etc…Here it goes!
- The Broad Museum
I wrote a whole blog post regarding my trip to the Broad Museum in Los Angeles. Amazing, unique, and breath-taking pieces all in a pretty small space; my boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this museum and will be going back again soon!
2. Circuit training
Why yes, I’ve been pretty consistent with my workouts in January. I started training at a local gym called “The 12” where they emphasize circuit, timed training. Before this, I knew nothing about exercise and literally just did cardio at the gym. Now, I have this whole new understanding of working out different muscles in my body and am LOVING it. For any work-out noobs or cardio-addicts, I highly suggest circuit training. It helps you build muscle while still getting a lot of cardio in your work out.
I made it a goal of mine to eat home-cooked meals on weekdays and to eat out during the weekends (max two times each weekend). I have always physically felt better when eating home-cooked meals. I tend to bloat and get indigestion quite easily, especially when I eat out. I also am susceptible to weight gain since I don’t exactly know what the ingredients are in what I’m eating at a restaurant. Sooooo, I’ve actually been planning my meals ahead of time and making sure I eat freshly-cooked meals during the weekdays. On the weekends, I allow myself to eat out at a maximum of two times and the restaurants have to be relatively healthy haha. So far, I feel great! Cooking makes me feel productive and more organized.
4. Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub in Passionfruit & Guava
This item was gifted to me from a co-worker and I LOVE it. It smells so fresh and delicious, it makes my mouth water every time I open it! The scrub is gentle and easy to spread and exfoliate. I use it in a steaming hot bath/shower and evenly spread and scrub it all over my body (a little goes a long way!). This leaves my body smoother than a baby’s bottom. I do this once or twice a week and always look forward to it 🙂 Tree Hut has a wide range of different types of scrubs and this has definitely made me want to try more of their products.
5. Trader Joe’s Mild Pico de Gallo
How have I not had this product until recently?! If you have never tried this, please do. The ingredients are simple and wholesome, no acids or artificial preservatives, just tomatoes, lemon juice, peppers, onions, etc…It tastes fresh and it’s so delicious with veggie chips, eggs, chicken, rice, and basically anything else. I can go through one tub in four days!
6. Laneige BB Cushion
I think I did a review about the Laneige BB Cushion BB cream in an old post and I remember saying that I did like it but it had a major con: it would break me out because of how oily I would get in a few hours. I also explained that this is a dewy BB cream and that it is definitely not mattifying: it’s not made for that. BUT, I fell in love with it in January! It’s so easy to apply, has an SPF of 50+, smells clean and fresh, and surprisingly holds for quite a while. I solved my break out problem by using only the smallest amount on my t-zone (the area where I used to break out a lot) and using my Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder on top. Didn’t have any angry pimples after that-yay!!
7. Jessica Jones on Netflix
Woot! Amazing show by Marvel on Netflix!! I went through this show in a dangerously small amount of time. If you love Daredevil, you will be sucked into Jessica Jones. Another great Marvel show and I really enjoyed Krysten Ritter as Jessica-I really doubted her when I saw the first episode but wow, she did awesome!
8. Learning to Slow Down
My last, but definitely not least favorite from January was actually an action. Another one of my goals for 2016 is to really focus on slowing down a bit. I have always been surrounded by fast-paced environments: my jobs, school, etc…and it really affected my life out of academics and work. I found myself rushing when doing mundane, daily activities or hanging out with friends or eating out with my boyfriend. In January, I really focused on taking my time with things and not being bothered by time and getting things done fast. It’s still a work in progress and will always be but I am so happy that I have been managing well so far! I highly suggest other people to try the same ❤
Welp! This was my January round-up~I do hope to continue these every month and will try sooooo hard to maintain them. Hopefully this was entertaining to some of ya’ll out there… 🙂
